Cheshire East Council (the Council) is a unitary authority and is responsible for the collection and disposal of municipal waste.
In order to comply with the DEFRA guidance on Simpler Recycling released in 2025 the Council wishes to undertake a Waste Composition Analysis to gain an understanding of the composition of the three waste streams which are collected from the kerbside.
The bidder will be required to collect waste samples from addresses within the borough, the waste samples are to include all waste streams (residual, recycling, garden). This will enable the Council to understand the types of materials within each waste stream and how these materials make up the total volume of waste. The analysis will also highlight contamination which may be included and the weights and percentages of the contamination.
Any information gained will be used to assist current contract management practices and used to form decisions for future waste strategies and initiatives.
